What keeps you going?  Do you have a saying or idea that pushes you forward?

I’m a complicated guy so I keep a lot of them.  I apologize already for this post as it is very long but allow it to be a sneak peek inside of my mind.  I call this list “Thoughts worth repeating”.  It is made up of some of the amazing wisdom that I’ve bumped into along the way.

To keep things fun I’ve purposely left off the names of anyone quoted.  Can you find who said all of these?  (I’ll give you a hint, at least 2 are mine).

Hopefully something in here will push you forward, clear your head, help you get over heartache or push you to start kicking ass…

  • Success and happiness are products of personal power

  • The best way to understand something is to relate it to something familiar

  • People only change when it becomes too uncomfortable not to

  • Those who succeed change because they CAN not because they have to

  • It’s hip to focus on getting things done, but it’s only possible once we remove the constant static and distraction

  • Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent

  • People who consistently achieve outstanding results all have this in common: they are passionate about what they do. It’s no longer work, but an active participation of joy and creativity.

  • When you are clear about wanting something, take action towards its attainment, and persist until you reach it, the universe will conspire to make it a reality. Your energy and determination will move people, and they will find ways to help you.

  • “Life is an ongoing process of choosing between safety (out of fear and a need for defense) and risk (for the sake of progress and growth).

  • Fear will paralyze us if we let it.

  • I’ve seen worse…  This is easy!

  • If you are on fire remember to stop, drop, and roll.  Problems, like fires, spread and become more severe if you run around waving your arms.  Sticking to procedures like stop, drop, and roll require great discipline but they are sometimes the only way to put out fires without endangering yourself and others.

  • Life is about Joy. Life is about experiencing, sharing and the spreading of Joy.

  • If you can’t shine where you are, go somewhere that you can

  • Toyota has identified seven primary types of non value-adding waste in its business: over-production, motion (of operator or machine), waiting (of operator or machine), conveyance, processing itself, inventory (raw material), and correction (rework and scrap). Liker included an 8th waste (a personal favorite)—untapped employee creativity.

  • Focus on doing one thing at a time and do it

  • Productivity is a byproduct of focused momentum. Maintain focus and momentum, and the right things will get done.

  • Many a false step was made by standing still.

  • IT is a strategic weapon

  • Speak up or you don’t have the right to be in the room

  • 80/20

  • The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.

  • Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.

  • Change is the root of all problems but also the only way to fix them.

  • “Commit yourself to taking enough risks that you will fail some of the time. If you’re not failing, you’re not doing something sufficiently difficult or creative.”

  • To be truly radical is to make hope possible, not despair convincing.

  • Everything works out right in the end.  If things are not working right, it’s not the end yet.  Just
    relax and keep going.

  • A good question to revisit whenever overwhelmed: Are you having a break-down or a breakthrough?

  • Live every day as if it was on purpose

  • Experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want

  • The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation

  • Make mistakes of ambition not sloth.

  • Doing something unimportant well doesn’t make it more important

  • To double your success rate double your failure rate

  • The part of life we really live is small.” For all the rest of existence is not life, but merely time.

  • You can’t run a marathon by trying hard. The first person who tried that died.

  • Almost anyone can make any one thing great if they focus on it and dedicate their life to it. If all you did was think about how to make one specific thing awesome every day, you would succeed.

  • Motivation comes from three sources, the desire to master or become better at something, recognition from others and lastly financial gain.  Studies have shown that the last source is the least motivating.
